Safari Dazzle was partly inspired by the work of David Bucklow, a brilliant realist painter based in Cape Town, South Africa, renowned for his passion for wildlife.
His detailed close-ups—particularly of a zebra’s eye—showcased how to paint a zebra eye on his YouTube channel, leaving a lasting impression of the artist. I tried to also capture the intensity of the zebra’s gaze, the contrast in tones, and the rich texture of the fur are all echoed in the painting, interpreted through a more expressive, abstract lens. This fusion of realist influence and abstract emotion brings new energy and dimension to the final piece.
